Thick and comfortable
Foam layer contours to feet
Stain- and abrasion-resistant
Not as durable as pricier options
Thinner than competitors
It often seems like our bodies are at odds with our lives. Junk food is completely devoid of nutrition, but it just tastes so good. Running outside is good for the heart, but bad for the knees. And while sitting all day has been linked to a whole host of health issues, standing is just marginally better as it tends to wreak havoc on our knees, feet, and back. Luckily, there are solutions in this modern world. Enter: anti-fatigue mats. These mats are engineered to provide support—something that hardwood and cement floors just can’t do. An anti-fatigue mat takes the onus off pressure points and allows weight to distribute itself more evenly, and (hopefully) lessens the aches and pains that come with standing all day. We tried a handful of anti-fatigue mats to see which performed best. Read on to see what we thought of the AmazonBasics Premium Anti-Fatigue Standing Mat.
Design: Nice and simple
This anti-fatigue mat from AmazonBasics comes in two colors: black and brown. It features a diamond pattern and is offered in a single 36 x 20-inch size. The edges are slightly beveled and non-curling, so you don’t have to worry about tripping.
During our testing period, we found the mat to be super comfortable—and a great value for the price. But given its low cost, we are a little worried about the mat’s durability. Other reviewers have noted that the seams on their mat began to split around the 6-month mark. Additionally, some noted that the top layer—presumably what makes the mat stain- and abrasion-resistant—began to peel off. After a few weeks of testing we hadn’t experienced either issue, but it’s worth mentioning.
Firmness: Firm and thick
This mat is certainly firmer than others we’ve tested, but it still offers uncompromising support for fatigued arches. We tested the mat both barefoot and with shoes on, and found it was incredibly comfortable either way. With a thickness of 0.6 inches, this mat provides just the right amount of cushion and support, and after spending months standing on hardwood floors, it felt like standing on a cloud.
In the past we’ve tried mats that offer only a few centimeters of support, and allow your feet to sink through the cushion, inching toward the floor. This mat conforms to the contours of your feet, and is engineered in such a way to keep you afloat.
Material: Stain- and abrasion-resistant
According to Amazon, this mat features a stain- and abrasion-resistant surface. After testing, we’d say that claim is accurate. We love the smooth rubber exterior, which held up super well to regular use. Some of the other mats we tried attracted dust and stains due to their non-slip rubber. The AmazonBasics mat, however, proved far easier to clean. Even after our cats had spent the afternoon napping on the mat, we could barely find a trace of hair, much less any claw marks.
We love the smooth rubber exterior, which held up super well to regular use.
When we dug into some reviews of customers who had used the mat longer than we had, however, we found some complaints. The principal complaint is that the mat slides around on the floor. Many users noted that they constantly had to put the mat back into place. While we didn’t encounter this issue, we can vouch for the fact that the material on the bottom isn’t very sticky, and the mat can be easily pushed aside with a single foot.
Ease of Cleaning: Super simple
Unlike some of it’s stickier counterparts, this mat made cleaning oh-so-easy. As we mentioned above, this anti-fatigue mat features a stain-resistant surface, so naturally the cleanup is incredibly simple. No need to breakout your all-purpose cleaner—instead, simply wipe the mat with a damp cloth and resume your day.

Price: On the lower end of the spectrum
We’ve all heard the adage “you get what you pay for.” And in the case of the AmazonBasics Anti-Fatigue Mat, we’d say it rings true. The mat offers decent support given its low $30 price tag, but given recent negative reviews which call its durability into question, it may be worth spending more if you plan to use your mat for 40+ hours a week.
Competition: Lots of contenders
We also tested the GelPro NewLife Bio-Foam Comfort Mat (view on Bed Bath & Beyond) and the Anti Sky Solutions Anti-Fatigue Sky Mats (view on Amazon) and found that each mat has its pros and cons. The GelPro is the priciest of the bunch and offers the thickest layer of foam, while the Sky Mat is the softest of the three, but delivers an impressive amount of support. The AmazonBasics mat is perhaps a little less comfortable than its competitors, but it’s drastically cheaper and slightly easier to clean. At the end of the day, it’s a great pick if you’re shopping on a budget. If you’re looking to splurge on a mat you’ll use every day, however, it may be worth checking out the GelPro or Sky Mat.
Buy it if you can’t spend more.
The AmazonBasics Premium Anti-Fatigue Standing Mat certainly has its upsides. It’s comfortable, contours to your feet, and won’t break the bank by any means. While it held up just fine during our testing period, lackluster reviews from other users lead us to question the mat’s durability. If you’re planning to place your mat in a high traffic area, you may want to consider more expensive options that won’t be as prone to split seams and sliding.
