This baked dutch apple pancake recipe is a great way to make a fuss-free pancake breakfast. Great to whip up for a special breakfast on a holiday or weekend get-together, this pancake is baked in the oven in a skillet. Ready in less than an hour, this is a different twist on the Dutch baby pancakes in that it includes slices of apples in the dish. Deliciously seasoned with brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla, this apple pancake bake will be a hit with family and friends alike and is sure to be put in your recipe repertoire to make over and over again.

Gather the ingredients.
Heat the oven to 425 F. Put a cast-iron or ovenproof 9- or 10-inch skillet in the oven.
In a bowl, combine the apple slices with brown sugar and cinnamon; toss gently to coat well.
In another bowl, mix flour with salt. In a large cup or small bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla, and 1 tablespoon of the melted butter.
Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl of dry ingredients, and whisk until just combined.
Carefully take the hot cast iron pan from the oven, set it on a cooling rack, and add remaining butter; swirl to coat the bottom of the pan.
Arrange apple slices over the bottom of the pan.
Pour batter over apple slices.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until puffed and lightly browned.
Serve with syrup or sprinkle with confectioners' sugar.
Although you might be tempted to skip this step, it is best to make this in a skillet that has been warmed up in the oven as directed for the best results.
To get that tart, crisp taste in these dutch apple pancakes, Granny Smith, Honey Crisp, or Johnathan apples are good varieties of apples to use. For a sweeter variety, try Gala or Fuji apples for this dish.
Put some cranberry sauce on top of the sliced apples for another variation of the dish.
Top it with strawberry or blueberry preserves or your favorite jam and then sprinkle it with confectioners' sugar.
How to Store
If there are any leftovers, although honestly not sure there will be, slice and store them in an airtight dish in the refrigerator for up to three days. Simply reheat in the oven or microwave until warm.
