This sugar cookie recipe contains butter and vanilla.


  • 1 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 3 tablespoons evaporated milk
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Steps to Make It

  1. Gather the ingredients.

  2. Preheat the oven to 375 F/190 C/Gas 5.

  3. In a mixing bowl with an electric mixer, cream butter and sugar until light.

  4. Beat in egg and vanilla.

  5. Sift flour and baking powder together; stir into creamed mixture.

  6. Cover the bowl and refrigerate the dough for about 1 hour, or until dough is firm enough to roll.

  7. On a floured surface, roll the dough out to 1/8-inch thick and cut with cookie cutters.

  8. Bake for 6 to 10 minutes.
