What Our Experts Say
“With Independence Day on the horizon, many shoppers are wanting to upgrade their cooking and grilling tools, appliances, and accessories to prepare for the long weekend and the summer season overall. Retailers offer great promotions around the Fourth of July to entice shoppers to stock up for all of the outdoor entertainment ahead, while also giving them a little more time to make purchases over the long weekend.” — Sara Skirboll, Shopping & Trends Expert at RetailMeNot
What is the Fourth of July?
Fourth of July is pretty much the biggest country-wide holiday of the year. Commemorating the Declaration of Independence, America’s birthday is often celebrated with fireworks, parties, picnics, barbecues, and general merriment throughout the country. Oftentimes, the days before and after the Fourth of July are also holidays, allowing for a long weekend. It’s also peak summer season, so sales are filled with kitchenware, home goods, and barbecuing appliances.
When Do Fourth of July Sales Normally Start?
This year, the Fourth of July falls on a Sunday, with most companies giving the Friday prior or the Monday after off, leading to a long weekend. Typically, retailers want to give customers some time to consider sales, so you’ll see most sales starting as early as June 29, and ending around July 9 or 10. Some advice from Skirboll: “Don't overlook last year’s models. These are typically offered at a lower price, which means the savings will be even steeper.”
What Items are Usually on Sale for Fourth of July?
Pretty much everything you can think of is on sale, given that it’s such a huge holiday. “Specifically, keep your eyes peeled for deals on kitchen appliances like blenders, instant pots, pots and pans, utensils, grills, and even some serveware for your summer and outdoor entertaining needs,” says Skirboll.
