Tired of bringing your favorite cup of joe or fruit smoothie to work only to find it tepid or watery half an hour later? Insulated tumblers just may be what you need. Because of their construction, which consists of double walls and a vacuum seal, these tumblers are perfect for those times when you’re on the go and you want to keep your beverage really hot or ice-cold for hours.
Of all the tumblers we tested and researched, two familiar brands lead the way. The Hydro Flask Tumbler is durable, cupholder-friendly, and offers hours of insulation. Our other favorite option is the Yeti Rambler Tumbler, which comes in multiple sizes and colors and can be counted on for years to come.
Most insulated tumblers also help prevent condensation (or "sweating"), have locking lids that are either leak- or splash-proof, and fit in most cupholders to make it easier to bring your drink on the road. And they're versatile—not only will you be able to savor your hot tea or cold brew at its optimal temperature, but also wine and beer.
We sent several insulated tumblers to our expert food writers so they could put them through our comprehensive testing process. They evaluated each one on its insulation, comfort in hand, sealing, and overall value.
From plastic to stainless steel to ceramic, here's our list of the best insulated tumblers to keep your favorite beverage at the ideal temperature.

How We Tested
The tumblers on this list were tested by several of our expert food writers. They spent weeks evaluating the items to see how they performed with everyday use. Some of the tests included measuring drink temperature, placing the tumblers in bags and cupholders, and trying different beverages to see if the tumblers' materials affect taste. After testing, our writers submitted feedback about what they liked and disliked, and they rated each brewer on the following features: insulation, comfort in hand, sealing, and overall value.
What to Look for When Buying
Good decisions to make before purchasing involve narrowing down a preferred size and what the tumbler will most frequently be used for. Read customer reviews to find common raves and complaints about each manufacturer’s products.
Durability is one of the most important characteristics in regard to long-term use. A lifetime warranty usually indicates the manufacturing is of high enough quality that a brand is willing to insure their products for an indefinite amount of time.
What is a vacuum-insulated tumbler?
“Vacuum-insulated tumblers or bottles feature a double wall, or two-layer construction—oftentimes made of stainless steel,” says Graham Nearn, Stanley’s Vice President of Product Creation and Design. “All air is removed from between the two layers of the bottle to create a vacuum.” This feature is why this kind of tumbler is able to keep beverages at the preferred temperature for an extended period of time.
Can you put oatmeal and other hot foods in an insulated tumbler?
Some tumblers are specifically made to keep eats and drinks hot or cold. A key component to check for is if the product’s interior is stainless steel. If not, it is unlikely to be able to maintain items like oatmeal or soup at a food-safe temperature.
Do tumblers lose their insulation over time?
A tumbler’s insulation should not deteriorate with prolonged use. “However if any insulated tumbler is damaged, thermals may be impacted,” states Nearn.
