Do Kids Cooking Subscription Boxes Come With Ingredients?
The majority of kids cooking subscription boxes do not come with ingredients because a lot of fresh ingredients are required for the recipes, but shopping lists are provided well in advance so that kids can start cooking when their kit arrives in the mail. The baking kits will provide the dry ingredients (flour, sugar, salt, spices, etc.), but it is up to parents to purchase the wet ingredients (eggs, oil, butter, milk, etc.). eat2explore is the only savory kit that regularly provides some of the ingredients such as unique spice blends or grain mixes, and Little Sous will occasionally provide a non-perishable ingredient as well.
Can Kids Prepare Recipes From the Kits on Their Own?
Recipes are designed for a wide range of ages—starting at 4 or 5 and stretching into the teenage years. Younger kids will need help from their parents for at least some of the steps, but older kids will be able to prepare most of the recipes on their own, using commonsense kitchen safety.
Are Kits Customizable?
Generally, kits cannot be customized. Kits come as is but some companies share monthly themes in advance prior to placing your order. Some kits can be modified to be vegetarian or gluten-free.
Methodology
The best kids cooking subscription boxes were chosen based on several criteria, including customer reviews, variety of themes offered, quality of ingredients and tools provided, overall packaging and design, and pricing options. Consideration was also given for dietary restrictions and allergen-friendly options. Exclusive of the baking kits, cooking kits were also selected for their mix of recipes that focus on real whole foods and not just “kid food.” For example, Little Sous was chosen for its slightly more advanced kits that include top-quality kitchen tools and attention to building culinary skills for the whole family.
