Sweet Snacks for the Family

Sometimes you want your snacks to be savory and salty, but sometimes you’re craving a bit of sweetness to keep you going.  These snacks provide just that, but most stay on the lighter side of fat and calories, so that bit of sweet indulgence feels good during and after the snack.

My kids loved these so much!  I topped berry fools with the Cranberry Almond version for an indulgent breakfast and Charlie said, “I need this in my life very often.”  These are great to snack on all by themselves, but also great on top of yogurt (frozen or regular) or ice cream.

If your kids like those little cups of applesauce then you may want to explore this new world of fruit cups.  Interesting combinations of smooth fruit sauces and juicy chunks of real fruit come in four flavor pairings: Apple-Strawberry Sauce with diced apple, Pineapple-Mango Sauce with Pineapple Pieces, Peach-Apple Sauce with Pineapple Pieces and Apple-Raspberry Sauce with diced apple.  Kids of all ages really enjoyed these.  High in Vitamin C, gluten-free.

These gluten free granola bars are named because they each contain 4 grams of protein, 4 grams of fiber, and 8 grams of sugar.  Flavors include Peanut Butter and Jelly, Oat and Honey, Peanut Butter and Chocolate, and Double Chocolate (guess which my kids tried first?).  Really good, good texture, what you want in a granola bar.

    That's It Fruit Bars

    That's It Bar
    That's It Bar. That's It

Simple and appealing, with ingredient lists of only two items, apples plus one other thing:  Apple and Apricot.  Apple and Strawberry.  Apple and Banana (“tastes like banana bread”).  Textures varied a bit from bar to bar, but all were good, reminding us of thick fruit leather.  There is 100 calories in each bar, and they are gluten-free, all natural, vegan, with no preservatives, and 2 to 5 grams of fiber in each bar.  In a world of complicated snacks these are refreshingly simple.

    Megpies. The Bridge

These flaky treats are totally homemade, all-natural  and you truly immediately taste the difference between these and the machine-made stuff, as the company promises. They come in Mixed Berry, Strawberry, Blueberry, Cinnamon & Brown Sugar and Chocolate.  They are definitely decadent, really handheld tarts, but nicely individually wrapped and oh so portable.

These are really more like desserts than snacks, but the three versions we tried were all delightful.  The Iced Lemon Mini Loaf Cakes were a huge hit and the first to go.  Crème Filled Golden Cakes and Frosted Chocolate Crème Cakes with Caramel were very moist and tender.  Though these are definitely indulgent, parents will appreciate Otis Spunkmeyer’s “No Funky Stuff” promise, which means all the snacks are made without artificial flavors or colors, high fructose corn syrup, or partially hydrogenated oils.  Talk about a happy-making product.
