    Most Sustainable: JUST Water

    JUST Water

    JUST Water

Founded by Jaden Smith, JUST Water is a mission-driven, B corp certified company committed to giving back more than they take. JUST Water provides boxed, natural, still spring water that is sustainably sourced from Glens Falls, New York.

Due to the water’s high pH, it is naturally alkaline and has a notable mineral content. It is “bottled” in a recyclable carton made out of FSC-certified paper- and plant-based plastic that maintains the water’s pure taste. The carton’s wide neck also makes it easy to refill, so it can serve as a reusable bottle before you recycle it.

If flavored water is your jam, JUST water has a line of still infused fruit waters: They take their natural spring water and infuse it with USDA organic fruit, a dash of essential oil, and some botanical extract.

The company's products contain zero artificial flavors, preservatives, sweeteners, and calories. The infused waters come in lemon, tangerine, blackberry, mint, and cherry, and are bottled in brightly-colored cartons that correspond with each flavor.

Best for Canned Water: Open Water

    Open Water

    Open Water

Launched in 2014, Open Water was the first company to use 100% recyclable aluminum bottles to contain their water, in an effort to reduce the widespread use of plastics.

The company went with aluminum because it is the easiest material to recycle most efficiently and, unlike plastic, can be recycled an infinite number of times. A percentage of each sale (1%) goes to repairing damage from plastic pollution.

The product line is simple and basic and includes bottled still water (16oz) and sparkling water (16oz), and most recently, canned water (12 oz). Unlike many other major brands, their sparkling water is not shipped from Europe. Instead, it's made in the U.S. in order to be as sustainable as possible and cut down on shipping emissions.

Open Water is available in select retail outlets around the country, however, online ordering for home delivery is easy, straightforward and completely free. You can also save 10% by signing up for their four-case subscription service which can be delivered every one to six weeks.
