Chef Paul Kirk, the celebrated 'Baron of Barbecue' from Kansas City, created this all-purpose rub, loaded with herbs, spices and flavor. This BBQ rub has a sweet component, but remember to keep the cooking temperature relatively low so that the sugar doesn't burn.

What You'll Need

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons seasoned salt
  • 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon lemon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon sage
  • 1/2 teaspoon basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon rosemary
  • 1/4 teaspoon​ cayenne pepper

How to Make It

  1. Combine all ingredients and store in an airtight container.
  2. Keep in a cool, dark place. This rub will remain good for up to 6 months.
