Citrus Green Ginger Cooler

If you don’t have a blender, I highly suggest you go find yourself one. While Vitamixes and the like are awesome, you don’t have to spend a fortune on a blender to get a good smoothie.

Find a new or like-new blender with a good blade and you are set!

This smoothie is the perfect treat for those sunny days when you want something sweet and something cold to cool you down. Not only does it incorporate all the delicious juices of fresh citrusy oranges and the sweet, tart flavors of kiwi, it also blends fresh baby spinach into the mix. Spinach contains antioxidants as has several nutrients that the body needs. What better way to get your vegetables in than drinking them? I'm not sure there is a better way! 

Even better, sometimes I add in a little ginger powder instead of fresh to keep it simple. Ginger can help with nausea and other tummy troubles. Due to the acidic nature of the orange and kiwi I find it helpful to add a little in there to help with the side effects acidic foods can sometimes cause. Plus, ginger also adds an earthy bitterness that invigorates the sense with an aroma that can also calm nerves.

So, what are you waiting for? Excite your day with this Paleo-friendly Citrus Green Ginger Cooler. Feel free to add in more fruit or vegetables or if you are feeling really adventurous add in a few spoonfuls of ripe avocado and watch the creamy factor go off the charts.  


  • 2 small kiwi fruit, skin removed
  • 3 oranges, juiced
  • 1 cup baby spinach
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, finely minced
  • 2 cups ice
  • Optional: organic agave

Steps to Make It

  1. Gather the ingredients.

  2. Place kiwis, spinach, ginger, and fresh squeezed orange juice in a blender. Pulse until all ingredients are combined. Next, add in spinach and pulse until combined with all other ingredients. 

  3. Once you get a nice green juice add in the ice. Pulse ice until broken down and blended well with fresh ingredients. 

  4. This would be the time to taste test. If the cooler is not sweet enough for your liking, add the organic agave starting with about 1 teaspoon. Reblend and taste again. I recommend adding no more than 3 teaspoons agave. 


Drink immediately or freeze in freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. I also like to freeze in ice cube trays overnight to make smoothies in the following weekday mornings.


Sprinkle chia seeds on the top to get a little extra boost of protein and omega-3 fatty acids into your diet. Approximately 1 tablespoon will be sufficient to get the chia benefits atop this delectable smoothie.
