Derek Rose is a writer and teacher living in Brooklyn, New York. He has been the Coffee and Tea Expert for The Spruce Eats since 2019.

Experience
The first cup of coffee Derek ever tried came from an airport vending machine. Despite the inauspicious beginning, he has been hooked ever since. Today he enjoys experimenting with different coffee recipes and brewing methods, as well as learning about coffee customs unique to specific parts of the world. He is especially well versed with non-electric brewing devices. As the Coffee and Tea Expert for The Spruce Eats, Derek researches a wide variety of products, from teapots to commercial espresso machines, and interviews field experts for their insight.
Education
Derek received an MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia University and a BA in Communications from Marist College.
