Bloody mary mix is easy to make at home. You will find that this mix is far more complex than the standard recipe. The combination of sauces and spices makes a great base that can be stored in the refrigerator. When you're ready for a bloody mary, you'll simply add it to tomato juice and pour the spirit of your choice.
While vodka is the most common liquor for a bloody mary, it's not the only option. Gin was the original base for the savory drink, and blended whiskey is excellent as well. Of course, you can always skip the booze and make it a virgin bloody mary, too.
The recipe makes right around 2 cups of bloody mary mix. For each drink, add about one tablespoon for every four or five ounces of tomato juice (and a shot of liquor), adjusting it to your taste.
1 3/4 cups Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons lime juice
2 tablespoons olive juice
1 1/2 tablespoons hot sauce
3/4 tablespoon paprika
1/2 tablespoon celery salt
1/2 tablespoon horseradish
1/2 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1 1/2 ounces vodka, optional for serving
4 to 5 ounces tomato juice, for serving
Gather the ingredients.
In a mixing bowl, add all of the ingredients.
Mix well and transfer to a jar with a tight-sealing lid. Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
To make a bloody mary, add about 1 tablespoon of the mix to a glass of vodka (or other liquor) and tomato juice, adjusting the proportions to taste. Enjoy.
