Looking to build out a comprehensive glassware set that will meet all of your drinking needs? Or perhaps you’re just looking for a small set that’s versatile enough for everyday use? Duralex’s extensive collection of glassware has got you covered either way. These Picardie Clear Tumblers come in a set of six. With a 12.62-ounce capacity, they’re ideal for water, iced tea, and most other beverages. Assessing components like design, durability, and ease of cleaning, we set to work determining whether these tumblers lived up to their stellar reputation. Read on for our full review.
Design: Attractive and versatile
Duralex’s Picardie Tumblers combine a classic, vintage-inspired design with the highest standards of durability. This set includes six 12.62-ounce glasses that are versatile enough to use for water, iced tea, soda, and even hot coffee. Because the glasses a microwave-safe, you can use them with any hot beverage. To ensure the glasses held up well in the microwave, we zapped a cup of water for tea. We were happy to find that the water warmed up nicely while the glass remained cool to the touch.
The glasses are lightweight and comfortable to grasp. Since we already have quite a glassware collection, we liked the fact that the glasses are stackable. This minimized the amount of space they took up in our already crowded cabinets.
This set includes six 12.62-ounce glasses that are versatile enough to use for water, iced tea, soda, and even hot coffee.
Duralex makes this exact style of glass in a variety of shapes of sizes, ranging from 3.125 ounces to 17.62 ounces. This a big bonus if you’re looking to build out a collection. The Picardie tumblers do have a very distinctive cafe-esque shape and design; while we really like the slightly flared lip and how the design allows for an optimal grip, the aesthetic may not appeal to everyone. Some other sets are plainer, making them more appealing to a wider audience and more compatible with existing glassware and dinnerware sets.
Durability: Built to last
French manufacturer Duralex invented the glass tempering process in 1945, so their products have an impressive track record. These glasses are certainly built to last. Duralex is 2.5 times more resistant to breakage and chipping than normal glass. Since they are able to withstand thermal shock ranging from -4 degrees to 212 degrees, they are safe to be used in the dishwasher as well as the microwave and refrigerator. The tempered glass material is also resistant to scratching, stains, and odors.
We still have several glasses left from a set we purchased about fifteen years ago.
We can personally attest to the durability of these glasses. Although we’ve only had this particular set for a few weeks, we’ve owned other sets of Duralex glasses in the past. In fact, we still have several glasses left from a set we purchased about fifteen years ago.
Care: A cinch
The glasses are wide enough that you can easily fit your hand in with a sponge or scrub brush. For even easier cleanup, these glasses are perfectly safe to go in the dishwasher.
Price: Worth the investment for durability
A set of six Duralex tumblers will cost you roughly $30. These glasses are on the pricier side, but Duralex’s stellar reputation is certainly worth the splurge. When it comes to durability, Duralex has a long-standing edge over the competition. However, if you’re looking for a more affordable set that includes a variety of glasses, there are other options to explore.
Competition: Plenty of budget options
Galaxy Glassware 12-Piece Set: If you’re looking to accumulate a glassware collection in one fell swoop, the Galaxy Glassware 12-Piece Set will cover your drinking needs without breaking your budget. Retailing for roughly $20, this set includes three different types of glassware: four 17-ounce highball glasses, four 13-ounce double old-fashioned glasses, and four 7-ounce juice glasses. Considering the price point, you might expect these glasses to be plastic, but they are made of high-quality glass and most users rave about their design.
Anchor Hocking 16-Piece Reality Tumbler Set: The Anchor Hocking Reality Tumbler Set is also highly praised and may better suit your budget. The glassware selection is slightly more limited than Galaxy’s with eight 12-ounce glasses and eight 16-ounce glasses. Nevertheless, their classic design makes them look far more expensive than their $30 price tag.
High-quality construction is worth the cost.
These glasses are on the pricier side, but if you’re looking for a set will last you, the Duralex Picardie Tumblers are certainly worth the splurge. This style is available in a great selection of shapes of sizes, so you can gradually build a collection based on your specific needs.
