- Heat the oven to 300° F.
- Using an electric mixer, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and blend well.
- Sift together flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir the sifted dry ingredients into the creamed butter mixture; mixing until well blended.
- Shape dough into small balls about 1 inch in diameter. Place them on ungreased cookie sheets. Gently press an almond half or whole almond into the top of each ball.
- Bake for 20 minutes, or until just lightly browned on bottoms.
