Once you learn how to make sloppy joes with this easy recipe, you can vary it lots of different ways. Try using a hot and spicy mustard or a honey mustard in place of the yellow mustard. Add chopped green and red peppers (brown with the onions and ground beef). Or vary the type of rolls you use. I like to use potato bread rolls, but Hawaiian rolls are nice, too.

Ingredients

  • 1 large onion (diced)
  • 1 pound. extra lean ground beef (90% lean)
  • 1-1/2 cups ketchup
  • 1/4 cup yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon. pepper
  • 4 sandwich-size potato rolls

Steps to Make It

  1. Gather the ingredients.

  2. Brown onion and ground beef in a skillet. Drain fat.

  3. Add ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce and pepper to meat. Simmer 10 minutes. Meanwhile toast buns.

  4. Serve on toasted potato rolls, hamburger rolls or Hawaiian bread.
