Elizabeth Yetter grew up in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country crafting the art of bread baking and learning about Depression-era food. She creates and shares her bread recipes and tips, using her over 20 years of bread baking experience and freelance writing skills.


Elizabeth Yetter is a former writer for The Spruce, contributing articles and recipes for eight years. She began baking bread in her teens as a way to get in touch with the Pennsylvania German and Amish history that surrounds her home. At first, she baked breads for family and friends. Later, she began taking orders and selling her loaves to other homemade bread lovers. She continued this passion by writing and sharing bread recipes and tips on baking bread. She especially enjoyed gathering family recipes from the Depression era.

It took a major snowstorm to make her realize how important and profitable bread baking is. All the local stores shut down for the day and, when they were able to reopen, the delivery trucks weren't able to bring in fresh bread. Being a new mother and eager to create an extra income, she saw an opportunity to sell her homemade bread. She posted on the bulletin boards around the apartments she lived in. She baked like crazy, and people began to knock on her door. For three days, she woke up at 4 a.m. to bake bread. After the roads were cleared of the winter storm, people continued to come to her door for homemade bread.
