Experience

Evi Abeler is a former writer for The Spruce, contributing articles for over a year. She is a professional food and still-life photographer based in New York City. In addition to her commercial work, she offers food photography training and workshops.

Growing up in rural Germany, she lived a farm-to-table experience. Her grandmother would wash muddy carrots, pluck feathers from freshly slaughtered chickens, and cook the game that her grandfather, an avid hunter, brought home. The gift of a camera at an early age sparked a new passion, which she explored further in high school, and eventually brought her to New York City to earn a master’s degree in fine art photography.

After working for five years as an in-house photographer and designer for the Rubin Museum of Art, she became hooked on food and still life photography after a weekend spent shooting tarts and jams for a friend in Woodstock. In 2010, she made the switch from photographing works of art to food and objects, and started her own photo studio in New York City.

Her clients include Food & Wine Magazine, Rodale and HarperCollins Publishing, the Food Network, and Whole Foods Markets.
