First Trimester Breakfast Ideas

The first trimester is full of nausea, exhaustion, and a lot of new swelling. The last thing you want to do in the morning is to eat, but it may be the one thing that helps keep nausea at bay! Here are a few ideas to keep your energy up and your nausea down during the first trimester.

    Smoothies really are the key to a happy morning. They are easy to suck down, are full of fruit, and are really easy to make. If you can stand the taste, try adding some protein powder. Protein is very important in the early months and is sometimes hard to eat.

    A lot of women have aversions to meat during the first trimester, so smoothies can be a great way to pack in some extra protein. Yogurt is another great way to pack in the protein—You can also add things like baby kale or baby spinach to your smoothie, which are great sources of folate for your growing baby.

    Tea and Toast

    It sounds simple and boring but some plain buttered toast and a cup of ginger tea can be a great start to your morning. It's not the most nutrient-dense breakfast, but it will be easy to eat and doesn't have any smells that may offend your sensitive nose. If you are really feeling ambitious, try adding a poached egg. Alternatively, just add a smear of cream cheese and some sliced apples with a drizzle of honey. You can get a little fruit and some dairy in your system.

    Blueberry Quinoa Breakfast Bowl

    Oatmeal is a really harmless breakfast and you can make it easy on yourself by making overnight oats. They are easy to pack on the go and are full of filling fiber. You can add things like berries or whatever your stomach can handle.

    Cereal With Fresh Fruit

    Some breakfast cereals don't taste like much and have a nice satisfying crunch to them. The cold milk is nice and refreshing and super palatable early in the morning and fresh fruit on top makes it extra special.

    You just need a little puff pastry and a few slices of fruit to make this breakfast danish. Once you've made a large batch you can just freeze them and re-toast them. The butteriness of the pastry and the easy to eat apple make for a quick and tasty breakfast.

    Plain Waffles or Pancakes

    You can make a big batch of waffles or pancakes and then freeze them. All you will have to do is pop two in the toaster oven in the morning and you have a quick and easy breakfast that doesn't have any disagreeable odors.

    If you are feeling ambitious, you can add a smear of peanut butter and a sprinkle of berries onto your waffle. This will help you get your protein and a small serving of fruit! It's hard to eat right in the early months, so try to include whatever nutrients you can.
