Although the Food Network briefly gave the general public exclusive, behind-the-scenes tours of its studios in 2008 and 2009, those tours are no longer available. The shows of the Food Network are recorded on closed sets at Chelsea Market in New York City. The Food Network does not offer tickets to show tapings to the general public.
How to Be Cast on a Food Network Show
Individuals who are interested in being cast on one of the Food Network shows can find information about specific show needs on the Food Network's get cast website.
Each show is listed along with the type of talent it is seeking and a method of applying—either by email or by an online application. A show may not be listed if it isn't currently seeking talent.
For example, "Cake Wars" lists its criteria as follows:
To submit an application for yourself or someone you think should appear on the next season of Cake Wars, please email with the following:
- Your name, age and phone number
- The city and state where you are located
- A photo of yourself, and five photos of your best-ever cakes
- A short paragraph telling us why you should be chosen to compete
Online applications are accepted for many of the network's shows including "Bakers vs. Fakers," "Christmas Cookie Challenge," "Chopped Junior" and "Beat Bobby Flay." Most of the show applications require photos of dishes the applicant has prepared.
What the Tours Provided
When tours were provided, tour goers could see where Food Network stars like Rachael Ray and Guy Fieri produced their shows as well as a look inside Iron Chef's Kitchen Stadium.
Guests also saw Food Network Kitchens where the network’s recipes were developed and tested.
Veteran tour guide and network employee Joe Moseley provided attendees with the history of Food Network and the Chelsea Market building where the studios are located.
Each tour lasted about 45 minutes and was limited to a maximum of 15 attendees.
Tickets were $20 each. The tours were held on the specific days and times in December and January.
