Design: A versatile selection of sturdy glasses

When it comes to getting the most bang for your buck, you really can’t go wrong with Galaxy’s 12-piece set. The collection includes three different sizes of glassware: four 17-ounce highball glasses, four 13-ounce double old-fashioned glasses, and four 7-ounce juice glasses. If you have a small household, the set will easily meet all of your drinking needs. If you have a large family or entertain often, you may want to purchase two sets.

Galaxy’s cups feel solid and sturdy, but they’re still very comfortable to hold.

At such a low price point, we would have expected these glasses to be made of plastic, but were very happy to see they’re constructed from high-quality glass. Galaxy’s cups feel solid and sturdy, but they’re still very comfortable to hold. The glasses are clear and have a raised polka pattern. While this usually isn’t our first choice in terms of design, it’s subtle enough to blend in with most of our other glassware and dinnerware. Plus, since the design is actually on the inside of the glass, the raised polka dots don’t affect the grip at all.

We tested our glasses throughout the day using them at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The small glasses are perfect for juice in the morning while the larger highball glasses are ideal for water. Thanks to their impressive 17-ounce capacity, you don’t have to refill them very often. With a heavier design and fairly wide circumference, the shorter, 13-ounce double old-fashioned glasses are best for sipping cocktails. The 7- and 17-ounce glasses are tapered at the bottom allowing for a comfortable grip.

The small glasses are perfect for juice in the morning while the larger highball glasses are ideal for water.

If given the choice, we would probably swap out the old-fashioned glasses for standard 12-ounce drinking glasses. Since we already have a pretty extensive collection of glassware, we also love the fact that these glasses are stackable and save us precious cabinet space.

Care: Held up well after a few washes

After a few weeks of use, we’d washed these glasses by hand and put them through the dishwasher quite a few times. When washing by hand, we appreciated the wide openings which allowed us to fit our hand and a sponge inside. In the dishwasher, we simply popped them on the top rack while being sure not to bang them against any other glassware. For such a modest price, we were expecting scratches, discoloration, or water spots to appear, but we had no such issues.

Price: It’s a steal

The Galaxy Glassware 12-Piece Set retails for $35—AKA less than $3 per glass. While that’s already a great price, you can often find further discounted (to the tune of $20) at various online retailers. Couple the set’s low price with its stellar performance and it’s certainly a steal. Unless you have a particular style or glass color in mind, we don’t see any reason to pass on this collection.

Competition: Plenty of options depending on your taste

Anchor Hocking 16-Piece Tumbler Set: Anchor Hocking’s 16-piece set is a strong runner-up. It includes eight 12-ounce glasses and eight 16-ounce glasses, but you’ll have to forgo the 7-ounce juice glasses. Retailing for $27, this set is both affordable and attractive. Due to the distinctive shape of the glasses, users say they look far more expensive than they really are.

Libbey Polaris 16-Piece Tumbler Glasses Set: If polka dots aren’t your thing, you might prefer a higher-end glass with a sleeker design. The Libbey Polaris 16-piece Tumbler Glasses Set comes with eight 16.25-ounce glasses and eight shorter 12.25-ounce rocks glasses, ideal for most beverages. Retailing for around $35, this higher-end set comes with an equally steep price tag.
