This salsa recipe from Tequila Herradura is quick and easy and is perfect for Super Bowl parties. It includes just enough tequila for extra flavor, but not too much to where you'll be drunk by the time the bowl's gone. Anyone can make this salsa, even if you have minimal experience in the kitchen; just chop and mix.

We would suggest using blanco tequila, but a reposado adds a rich agave flavor to the mix.

This is a fresh salsa and there is no chance for the alcohol to cook off. It would be wise to make a version without the tequila if there are children or guests who cannot have alcohol at your party. Clearly mark which bowl includes tequila so there is no confusion.

Ingredients

  • 2 large tomatoes, chopped

  • 1 large onion, chopped

  • 4 serrano chile peppers, stems and seeds removed, chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro

  • 1/3 cup tequila

  • 1/2 cup lime juice

  • 1/4 cup water

  • 1/4 tsp salt, or to taste

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper, or to taste

Steps to Make It

  1. Gather the ingredients.

  2. In a medium bowl, mix tomatoes, onions, chile peppers, garlic, olive oil, and cilantro until all items are coated in the oil.

  3. Mix in tequila, lime juice, and water.

  4. Leave as-is for chunky salsa, or puree in a blender or food processor for a smooth, paste style of salsa. Add salt and pepper to taste.

  5. Serve and enjoy.
