Fried eggs are just as popular on the Middle Eastern breakfast menu as they are in the United States. But instead of a simple cracked egg cooked in a bit of oil or butter, this flavorful recipe features garlic, lemon juice, and chopped fresh parsley, making for a savory and interesting egg dish that will excite the whole family.
But just because it includes more ingredients doesn't mean this recipe is complicated or will take a long time to make. This garlic fried egg recipe just adds one additional step and will be on the breakfast table in about five minutes!
Ingredients
-
Unsalted butter, or cooking spray, to coat frying pan
-
1 tablespoon minced garlic
-
1 tablespoon lemon juice, freshly squeezed
-
2 large eggs
-
1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
-
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, or to taste
-
1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh parsley
Steps to Make It
-
Over medium heat, melt butter in a frying pan, or coat the pan with cooking spray before heating. Add garlic and lemon juice and sauté for about 2 minutes, watching to make sure the garlic doesn't burn.
-
Crack eggs into frying pan. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and cook for about 2 minutes, until yolk begins to get a little firm.
-
Flip eggs carefully and sprinkle again with salt and pepper. Allow to cook for 1 to 2 minutes (longer if you like a firmer yolk).
-
Remove from frying pan, sprinkle with parsley, and serve immediately.
Raw Egg Warning
Consuming raw and lightly cooked eggs poses a risk of foodborne illness.
Additional Ways to Cook Eggs
If this recipe has inspired you to explore other ways to cook eggs, you are in luck. There are plenty of simple egg recipes just waiting for you to try out:
- Baked Eggs: Also called shirred eggs, may take a little longer in the oven than frying an egg on the stove, but the results are worth the wait. Eggs are combined with cream, butter, and cheese in individual dishes and baked until set. This is a flexible recipe, delicious with a variety of cheeses, as well as the addition of herbs, finely chopped vegetables, and even ham or bacon. Scoop out with crusty bread for a different kind of breakfast.
- Poached Eggs: If you are looking for something a bit healthier, then poached eggs are the answer. They may seem intimidating to cook, but if you follow a few simple steps you should have perfectly poached eggs, ready to sit cozily on an English muffin or toasted multigrain bread.
