Vegetarian Orphanages

Several orphanages around the world, often in the poorest countries, remain vegetarian for cultural, religious or other reasons. Here are two that would benefit immensely from your donations:

  1. Lotus Children's Centre

Based in Ulan Battar, Mongolia, the Lotus Children's Centre is so much more than "just" an orphanage. Rather than just providing needy children with a home, Lotus Children's Centre seeks to break the cycle of poverty by initiating income-generating projects for families who otherwise would be unable to care for their children. The nearly 150 children who call Lotus Children's Centre "home" receive health care, education, career and life skills development, and, most importantly, a brighter future. 2. Bhaktivedanta Children's Home

This vegetarian orphanage in Sri Lanka cares for and schools over 100 children, many of whom were affected by the Boxing Day tsunami. Sri Lanka is a poor and troubled country, and the work this organization does is admirable. Donors have the option of sponsoring an individual child, and can exchange personal letters with their sponsored child. Donations are tax-deductible in the United States.
