Looking for a twist on the classic baked ham for your next holiday gathering? Sweeten things up with this recipe for glazed baked ham with pineapple and honey.
This recipe is simple to make, but you need to be sure to allow enough time for the marination. Prepare the marinade the night before or early in the morning and let the ham marinate for at least 6 hours in the refrigerator before you pop it into the oven. Plan to let the ham rest at room temperature for up to 1 hour before baking.
Choose savory sides that don't conflict with the sweetness of the ham's glaze (like mashed potatoes or roasted asparagus) and serve a dry red wine that's similar to what you select for the marinade. These pairings make a tasty combination that's sure to please—don't be surprised when your guests ask for seconds and even thirds.
1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup honey
1/3 cup dry red wine
1/2 cup pineapple juice
1 clove garlic, minced
1 fully cooked ham, about 6 pounds
Steps to Make It
Gather all ingredients.
In a large bowl or large food storage bag that will hold the ham, combine the brown sugar, honey, wine, pineapple juice, and minced garlic.
Place the ham in the marinade, turn to coat well, and let it marinate for 6 hours or overnight in the refrigerator. Turn frequently to keep the ham coated with marinade.
Remove ham from the refrigerator and let rest at room temperature for up to 1 hour.
Preheat the oven to 350 F.
Place the ham on a rack in a roasting pan and reserve the marinade for basting.
Bake the ham, basting frequently with the reserved marinade, until a meat thermometer (not touching the bone) reads about 140 F or about 10 minutes per pound.
Serve and enjoy!
