This green blood tonic recipe combines liver cleansing vegetables with chlorophyll-rich leaves in a powerful healing drink.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) understands that our blood has an energetic component to it. A lackluster complexion, pale lips and skin, dry fingernails and hair, and fatigue often characterize what TCM refers to as blood deficiency. (Please consult with a licensed healthcare provider rather than attempting self-diagnosis). Blood Deficiency and anemia, both common phenomena in vegans and vegetarians, can be greatly helped by the addition of chlorophyll rich plants in concentrated doses.
Chlorophyll food generally contains ample iron and manganese, and as such helps build healthy blood. Chlorophyll rich foods should NEVER be cooked for a long time, as the nutrients are destroyed. Either eat your chlorophyll raw or by rapid steaming (steaming for less than 5 minutes), which preserves and possibly even enhances chlorophyll absorption.
Please make sure all ingredients are organic. If you are not comfortable drinking an intense green juice yet, start by adding a green apple to this recipe. It will soften the flavor a bit.
- 1 cup organic sunflower or alfalfa sprouts
- 2 cups packed spinach leaves
- 1 cup packed flat Italian parsley leaves
- 8 -10 dandelion leaves
- 2 small limes, outer green layer of skin removed to leave white pith intact
- 1 unpeeled cucumber
- 6 stalks celery
Feed the ingredients into the juicer in the order listed.
