Guide Review - Green Mountain Jim Bowie Pellet Grill
Green Mountain Grills has one of those typical stories. It starts with a man with a pellet grill who knew that he could make it better. Years went by and the Green Mountain Pellet Grills were perfected. Made in China, these pellet grills are first and foremost reasonably priced. The additional features are designed to correct the common issues that people had with earlier pellet grills (aka Traeger).
Like most any pellet cooker, the Green Mountain Jim Bowie has an enclosed cooking chamber and a side mounted pellet unit. The pellet unit has a 17-pound capacity hopper (where the pellets go) an auger to feed the pellets into the fire pot, a fan to boost combustion and control temperature, and a control unit. This pellet grill has a temperature range of 170 to 500 F. and can be adjusted in 5-degree intervals. Of course, this is an electrically powered unit.
The unique features of the Green Mountain Pellet Grills include a hopper alarm that goes off when the pellet supply gets low, a positive pressure fan to keep sparks out of the auger (and start the dreaded hopper fires), and a cold weather booster to get the grill up to temperature when and outside air is cold. These are the attention to detail sort of issues that make for a good product, of which this is one.
This model comes with a stainless steel lid option as well as a WiFi enabled app option for monitoring and controlling the unit via a tablet or smartphone.
Green Mountain Grills are sold exclusively through independent dealers (look here for a dealer near you).
