How to Make a Chocolate Monogram or Filigree Decoration
Making a chocolate monogram or candy filigree decoration is easy and takes just a few steps and some basic equipment. These decorations make an elegant addition to a special occasion cake such as for a birthday, retirement, or anniversary. You can make smaller designs to top cupcakes or decorate candies.
You can use chocolate or you can use any other candy coating that you can melt and pipe with a piping bag and allow to solidify.
The chocolate monogram can be used to decorate a chocolate box.
To make a chocolate monogram or filigree, you will need:

- Waxed paper
- Template for your design (optional)
- White or dark candy coating
- Paper cone or piping bag fitted with a small round tip
- Luster dust (optional)
- Small clean paintbrush (if using luster dust)

Secure the Template and Waxed Paper
If you're using a template, start by placing it on your work surface or on a baking sheet. Depending on your artistic skills, you may want to trace chocolate decorations instead of doing them freehand, especially if you are making multiple pieces and want them to look uniform. For your template, you can use a design you've drawn or something you've found in a book or printed online.

Melt the Candy Coating
Melt the candy coating until it is smooth and free of lumps, and place it in a paper cone or a piping bag fitted with a small round tip. If your design is not too intricate, you can also try using a plastic bag with a small hole cut in the corner, but this doesn't give you as much precision as the other two options.Continue to 4 of 7 below.

Trace or Draw Your Design
Carefully trace your design onto the waxed paper, or free-hand your monogram or filigree. If you want to make more than one design, you can slide the template underneath the waxed paper so that you can trace it multiple times on different parts of the paper.Continue to 5 of 7 below.

Let Your Monogram Harden
Let the coating harden at room temperature, for about 15 minutes, or if it's on a baking sheet, place it in the refrigerator until it is set, about 5 minutes. Once it's hard, your chocolate monogram can now be used. If you want to add luster dust to make it sparkle, continue on to the next step.Continue to 6 of 7 below.

Brush on the Luster Dust
Take the luster dust and brush it all over the outside of the chocolate monogram with a small, clean paintbrush that has only been used for food. Be careful touching the monogram, as the dust will wear off with your fingerprints.Continue to 7 of 7 below.

Your chocolate monogram is now finished! You can use your monogram or filigree to top cakes or cupcakes or to decorate candies or on a chocolate box.
