Experience
Judy Ung, M.B.A., is a former writer for The Spruce, contributing articles and recipes for two years. She is a writer, food blogger, and marketing consultant. She is passionate about Japanese food and culture and enjoys sharing them with others. She dispels preconceived notions that cooking Japanese food is intimidating by simplifying ingredients, cooking techniques, and recipes.
Judy grew up feasting on her native Japanese mother's home-cooked meals. She learned about the foods and flavors of Japan both in the kitchen of her childhood home and through traveling there. Many of the Japanese dishes she cooks today were learned from her mom, and some of her favorite recipes are those that were handed down from her maternal and paternal grandmothers.
After settling down and becoming a new parent, Judy realized the importance of her Japanese heritage and how meaningful it was for her to grow up enjoying home-cooked Japanese meals. To cook and eat similar meals she enjoyed as a child, and to share this with her own family, was not only nostalgic but also a valuable tradition she wanted to continue and pass on to generations to come.
Upon realizing the significance of her family's recipes, she created the food blog Bebe Love Okazu about her journey both in and out of the kitchen, and about the Japanese heritage and culture she grew up with.
Education
Judy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of California, Irvine, and a Master of Business Administration from Loyola Marymount University. She speaks conversational Japanese fluently.
Awards and Publications
Judy published many recipes on her personal blog Bebe Loves Okazu for seven years.
