Katherine Hysmith is a Texas-bred, North Carolina-based food writer who works at the intersections of food, gender, and the digital landscape. Her current favorite way to talk about food history is by making rather ridiculous TikToks.
Katherine has worked as a food writer, recipe developer, and food photographer for numerous print and digital publications across the nation, including The Boston Globe, Gastronomica, Sift by King Arthur Baking, The Locale Palate, The Kitchn, and more. She wrote the Saltbox Seafood Joint Cookbook with Chef Ricky Moore and is currently assisting with a book on the legacy of foodways in North Carolina. She likes to express her thoughts and opinions through buttercream, just like her grandmother taught her.
Katherine holds a MLA in Gastronomy from Boston University and is currently finishing up her PhD in American Studies at the University of North Carolina. Her research focuses on the impact of women's food history and digital food media.
