Impress Your Friends With This Delicious and Easy Korean Dinner Menu

Making homemade Korean dishes for a gathering may seem like quite an undertaking, but with a bit of forethought, it can be a stress-free dinner party. The trick is to choose a few dishes that can be made in advance and are still delicious when warmed up. This easy Korean dinner party menu includes rice, broiled salmon, noodles (chapchae), braised short ribs (galbi jim), kimchi and spinach side dishes, bean sprout soup, and ​barley tea. Everything but the salmon and short ribs can be made well in advance, and even these two gorgeous main dishes require very little hands-on time.

    Korean Spicy Pickled Cabbage

    It is not a Korean dinner without kimchi, but you do need to plan ahead—this spicy pickled cabbage needs to ferment for at least two days before your party. If you eat a lot of Korean food at home, then you might already have this in your refrigerator, but if not, you need to start cooking ahead of time. If you're a late planner, then hopefully you are lucky enough to live close to an Asian grocery store!

    The cabbage seasoned with garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes is a delicious side dish as well as an ingredient in many Korean recipes.

    You can make this light bean sprout soup the day before your dinner party and it will still taste fresh when reheated. Simply put it in a soup pot and bring to a simmer. Then take it off the burner, cover it, and ladle it into bowls when you are ready to serve dinner. Although made with only a few ingredients and about a half-hour on the stove, your guests will think you spent hours making this lovely soup.

    Seasoned Spinach (Sigumchi Namul)

    Seasoned spinach is served as a cold side dish, so you can make it the day before or the morning of your dinner party and store it in your refrigerator. Blanched spinach is seasoned with soy sauce, sesame oil, and garlic and sprinkled with sesame seeds and sesame salt for an Asian-inspired healthy dish.

    Stir Fried Korean Noodles (Chapchae)

    These stir-fried Korean noodles reheat well, whether you choose to warm them up on the stove or in the microwave. You can make this dish the day before your dinner party or the morning of, and then just reheat and plate it as your guests arrive.

    The recipe calls for glass noodles, which when cooked up become translucent (hence the name). They are sautéed with vegetables, sesame oil, and soy sauce to create a flavorful dish—if you add meat it can be a complete meal.

    Braised Short Ribs (Galbi Jim)

    These Korean braised short ribs require a couple of hours of unattended cooking time and result in fall-off-the-bone tender and flavorful meat—perfect for a dinner party and sure to be a hit. The short ribs are cooked in a mixture of sugar, soy sauce, rice wine, garlic, onions, scallions, sesame seeds, and sesame oil, allowing the flavors to penetrate the meat.

    Barley tea the most popular beverage in Korea and is served hot, warm, or cold over ice. It is easy to make and requires just two ingredients: roasted barley and water. You simply bring to a boil, simmer for 20 minutes, and then serve.

    Broiled fish tastes best when eaten immediately, so this broiled salmon with soy honey glaze is the one dish that you should try to make right before you are about to eat. But since everything else on this menu should be ready, making the salmon shouldn't stress you out. You can make the soy honey glaze ahead of time—then all you need to do is brush the salmon fillets with the glaze, let sit for a few minutes, and then pop in the broiler.
