Hello! I'm a food lover turned cookbook author based in Portland, Oregon. I've authored several books including my latest cookbook, Dumplings Equal Love, published in 2020 by Sasquatch Books, as well as my first co-authored cookbook, Toro Bravo, published in 2013 by McSweeney's.
I maintain a large culinary garden at home and grow everything from Concord grapes, Brooks plums, and Bartlett pears, to heaps of heirloom tomatoes in the summer (my favorite!), and enough garlic to keep the vampires at bay. I love food and drink fermentation and ferment all sorts of things at home like tart and fizzy fruit and flower wines, miso and soy sauce, sour pickles and krauts, and all kinds of vinegars.
I've been a Portland-based food writer for nearly 20 years. I've authored and co-authored several books, including three cookbooks. My forthcoming fourth cookbook, Fermenter: DIY Fermentation for Vegan Fare, co-authored with Portland chef and restaurateur, Aaron Adams, is due out fall 2023.
