Madalyn Vasquez, MS, RDN, CDCES, is a registered dietitian who provides nutrition and diabetes management education for individuals living with diabetes. She is responsible for assessing patients to individualize their needs. Her goal is to empower individuals to understand food and nutrition so they can successfully manage their diabetes through small, sustainable lifestyle changes.
Madalyn has worked in both community and outpatient settings, providing nutrition and diabetes education. Her role includes managing the education of people living with diabetes while establishing short- and long-term goals to successfully manage their health.
Madalyn's culinary background has enabled her to study abroad in Italy to learn about the Mediterranean diet and different regional cuisines throughout Italy, cooking regional dishes with local chefs. She has taught diabetes self-management classes that integrate her medical expertise with her culinary skills through cooking demonstrations. This encourages and helps participants internalize the strong connection between food and health.
Finally, Madalyn extends her educational mission through her social media brand, @diabetes.rd, and makes regular appearances on podcasts advocating for diabetes nutrition. Through these mediums she seeks to counter the rampant misinformation that can lead people to adapt unrealistic fad diet and lifestyle changes in an attempt to manage their diabetes. Overall, she wants people to understand that diabetes is complex, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to management.
