Many will agree that the combination of Oreo cookies and ice cream is a brilliant idea, and when this delicious frozen treat is made into a pie, it can be considered genius. This recipe features Oreos in three ways—in the ice cream, the crust, and the pie topping—making this an Oreo lover's dream dessert.

The pie begins with a prepared Oreo cookie crust and a few Oreo cookies. Whole cookies are placed along the edge of the crust, adding another layer of chocolate cookie with cream filling. The remaining cookies are crushed and sprinkled on top of the ice cream, and a drizzle of chocolate syrup finishes off the pie.

When you have some Oreo ice cream on hand, the pie comes together easily, but you can also make the ice cream yourself using vanilla ice cream and about seven cookies that have been broken up into small pieces. Make sure to plan ahead as this Oreo ice cream pie needs to set up in the freezer for at least four hours.

"If cookies and cream is your favorite ice cream flavor, you’ll love this pie! It's been the perfect cool and creamy treat to cap off warmer days this past week. Be sure to use your favorite brand of ice cream or even take the time to make your own for a truly delicious." —Kayla Hoang

If you choose to make your own Oreo ice cream from store-bought ice cream, stir about 1/2 cup crushed Oreos (roughly 6 or 7 sandwich cookies) into one quart softened vanilla ice cream.

Recipe Variations

  • Add a middle layer of finely crushed Oreos; place half of the ice cream in the pie crust, cover with a layer of cookie crumbs and freeze until solid. Then add the remaining Oreo ice cream and the top layer of cookie crumbs and freeze again.
  • Use mint Oreo ice cream instead of one with a vanilla base, or if making the ice cream yourself, use a chocolate ice cream to make the Oreo ice cream.
  • Cover the top of the ice cream layer with whipped cream or whipped topping and then sprinkle with the cookie crumbs and drizzle with chocolate.
