Ozeri Nouveaux Electric Wine Opener

Ozeri Nouveaux Electric Wine Opener

The Spruce Eats / Suzie Dundas

You don’t need to be a wine aficionado to know there’s a huge culture around wine and the winemaking process. Whether you’re an oenophile or just enjoy a good bottle of wine here and there, an electric wine bottle opener, like the Ozeri Nouveaux, is a must-have accessory. While some may appreciate the extra muscle a traditional corkscrew requires, electric bottle openers are often easier to use and they reduce the risk of your cork breaking off in the bottle. We tested the Ozeri Nouveaux Electric Wine Opener and appreciated its simple operation and modern upright design. With a clean foil cutter and easy charging, there’s no reason to use anything else. Read on for our full review.

Design: Blends into any decor

Though the Ozeri Nouveaux Electric Wine Opener is high-tech, its simple black and brushed metal elements allow it to match most kitchens. In our home, it blended in with our simple wooden wine cart, and its slim build vaguely matched the shape of both our decanter and cork display. Better yet, it takes up very little counter space with a diameter of just 3 inches, so there should be room for it in most households. Since Ozeri promises that one charge is enough to open about 40 bottles, it’s possible to keep it under the counter instead, pulling it out only to charge (and use, of course).

We like that the bottom of the wine opener has a light blue glow when charging. We also like that there’s no additional base or charging port; the included charging cable plugs directly into the back of the opener, which eliminates the risk of losing a charging base and rendering your opener useless.

Performance: Simple yet effective

Using the Ozeri Nouveaux is as simple as can be. Unlike a traditional corkscrew, it can be operated with one hand and it requires little effort. Though the device comes with instructions, its simple functionality allowed us to forgo them. Opening our first bottle of wine took about ten seconds. We just pushed the button and watched—through the transparent chamber—as it automatically drove the screw into the cork and then removed the cork from the bottle.

Opening our first bottle of wine took about ten seconds.

The built-in foil opener works flawlessly and removes foil in about two seconds, causing it to fall off like a bottlecap. We love that this eliminates the need for a blade to remove the foil and that the wine opener fits perfectly over the neck of most bottles. That gives it a leg up on traditional openers, which run the risk of breaking the cork if the screw gets inserted at the wrong angle.

Thanks to its 3-inch diameter, one-hand use is a breeze, freeing up our other hand to grip the bottle and avoid spills. We think it’d make a great thank you gift for a dinner or housewarming party, especially if there are multiple bottles being opened. Though we’ve grown accustomed to a manual, lever-style corkscrew, we’re now planning on using the Ozeri exclusively.

Price: Amazing gadget at an affordable price point

The Ozeri Nouveaux retails for just $20—a steal considering its smart design and flawless performance. We think the low price point is due to Ozeri being a lesser-known brand, so we suggest snagging one now before word gets out about their products and prices go up.

Competition: Similarly priced options

Flauno Electric Wine Bottle Opener: Buyers who prefer to keep their countertops free of cords should check out the Flauno Electric Wine Bottle Opener (view on Amazon), which features a wine stopper and bottle-attached aerator. With a price point that’s less than $25, it’s a great, similarly priced option that uses batteries instead of a charger. The Flauno is able to open around 120 bottles before the batteries need to be replaced, while the Ozeri Nouveaux gives you only about 40 uncorkings on a single charge. Of course, with the Flauno you need to remember to buy batteries.

Brookstone Compact Wine Opener: If you’re looking for a non-electric option, the Brookstone Compact Wine Opener (view on Amazon) is a great choice. Using a pull-down motion, any bottle can be opened in about three seconds with minimal effort. Unlike the Ozeri Nouveaux Electric Wine Opener, however, it doesn't come with a foil remover and it doesn’t have a stand to hold it up, so it won’t look as nice on a bar cart or sitting on a kitchen counter.

Oster Cordless Wine Bottle Opener: If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative, the Oster Electric Wine Opener (view on Amazon) is a solid contender. Its sleek design features a charging base and a single button to operate. Like the Ozeri, the Oster Features a built-in foil cutter, but it can only uncork up to 30 bottles in one single charge. Though it’s priced at around $18, the Oster is often on sale for $15 and under.

Final Verdict

What’s not to like?

We tried to find a downside to this wine opener and came up short every time. It worked flawlessly during our testing and was simple to use—even on the first try. It pulled corks out flawlessly and the foil remover worked exactly as promised. We haven’t encountered a better option at such a low price, so we fully recommend it.
