Shrove Tuesday is the same thing as Fat Tuesday, the Mardis Gras celebration that leads up to Lent. This is the last day before Ash Wednesday, when fasting and giving up certain foods for religious reasonsĀ are common. Shrove Tuesday is also called Pancake Day in Great Britain. It's a celebration, so set your table nicely and enjoy every bite with family and friends.

Classic pancakes are easy to make; you just have to follow a few rules.

First, always make sure to measure all the ingredients carefully and correctly, especially the flour. Never mix pancake batter for a long time. If you beat it too long, too much gluten will develop and the pancakes will be tough. When you cook the pancakes, don't try to turn them until bubbles form on the surface and the edges look slightly done. Turn carefully with a wide spatula.

Serve these pancakes with a nice sweet and savory kielbasa side dish, two kinds of salad, and the fastest cheesecake. Top the cheesecake with some sliced strawberries or whipped cream for a fancy touch if you'd like.

Pancakes for Shrove Tuesday Menu

  • Classic Pancakes
These pancakes are super easy and very delicious. Try serving them with a little warmed honey instead of maple syrup for an Eastern European twist. I myself like topping my pancakes with melted butter and powdered sugar.
  • Appley Kielbasa
This easy crockpot recipe is a great choice for this meal. Let it cook all day and you'll come home to some marvelous aromas that will get your tummy rumbling. The combination of apple and kielbasa sausage is perfect.
  • 24 Hour Salad
If you want a salad that's more like a dessert, this is the recipe for you. It's perfect for the indulgence of Shrove Tuesday. The cooked dressing is sweet and smooth, perfect for the fruits and marshmallows.
  • Fastest Cheesecake
I don't know if you want dessert when pancakes are on the menu, but if you do, try this delicious and easy pie. By the way, if it won't set up (it should if you avoid low fat and nonfat ingredients), freeze it! It's just as delicious that way.

Of course, you can make any pancake recipe you'd like. Pair it with some delicious sausages and comforting side dishes for a great breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
