Serve these as part of the Thanksgiving dessert table, use them as edible place settings, or bring them as a gift for the host or hostess. 


  • 8 ounces dark chocolate candy coating

  • 24 round crackers

  • 24 chocolate peanut butter cups

  • 2 ounces light chocolate candy coating

  • 2 ounces white candy coating

Steps to Make It

  1. Gather the ingredients.

  2. Cover a baking sheet with waxed paper or parchment paper.

  3. In a medium bowl, melt the dark chocolate candy coating in the microwave. Stir after every 30 seconds to prevent overheating, and stir until the coating is melted and smooth.

  4. Use a fork or dipping tools to dip each cracker into the coating, covering it completely. Take it out and let the excess drip back into the bowl, then place it on the prepared baking sheet. Once all of the crackers are dipped, refrigerate the tray to set the coating, for about 10 minutes.

  5. Melt the light chocolate candy coating in a small bowl, just as you did the dark chocolate. Hold a peanut butter cup by the narrow end, and dip the wide end in the coating, coming up the sides about 1/4-inch.

  6. Place the cup in the center of a cracker, pressing down just slightly to make sure all the edges of the candy touch. Repeat until all of the peanut butter cups are attached. Briefly refrigerate the tray again.

  7. Finally, melt the white candy coating in a small bowl. The decoration is easiest to make if you have a paper cone or piping bag fitted with a small round tip. You can use a plastic bag with a hole snipped in the corner, but for this sort of small decoration, paper cones or piping bags give more precision. Scrape the melted white coating into your decorating tool of choice, and pipe a small square on the front of each peanut butter cup for the buckle. Refrigerate the tray for 10 minutes.

  • If you want to omit a step and save a few minutes, you can skip the light brown chocolate ring around the peanut butter cup. Once you've dipped a cracker, immediately press a peanut butter cup down in the center of it, so the coating on the cracker will adhere to the candy. Then, add the white chocolate buckle, and you're done.
  • Pilgrim Hats can be kept for up to a week in an airtight container at room temperature. They will actually last longer than that, but the crackers start to get stale after about seven days.
