We purchased the PowerLix Milk Frother Pro so our reviewer could put it to the test in her kitchen. Keep reading for our full product review.

If you’ve ever ordered a hot latte or cappuccino at a coffee shop, you’re familiar with the creamy foam that sits on top of an espresso beverage. To get this stiff foam, the milk was frothed, usually with a steam wand. It’s possible to get this foam at home, too, with either your own at-home espresso or cappuccino machine or a milk frother like the PowerLix Milk Frother Pro. We used the PowerLix for several weeks, testing it for its foam quality, design, cleanup, and price. Keep reading to see what we thought.

Design: Comfortable grip and polished look

What initially grabbed our attention about the PowerLix Milk Frother Pro was its sleek design. The top portion features a nice slim handle with the power button on it, and the bottom half is the whisk, which gets inserted into the milk. This bottom half is made of an 18/10 stainless steel spiral that keeps it from rusting or easily breaking over time. Beyond looking fabulous, it’s small in size (8.9 x 1.6 inches), making it travel-friendly.

It’s really easy to store because you can fit it just about anywhere on the kitchen counter.

It also comes with a cute metal stand for the frother to sit in when not in use. It’s really easy to store because you can fit it just about anywhere on the kitchen counter. We really loved this aspect of the frother because the stand also helps to prevent it from getting damaged. Because the milk frother is so small, it could definitely fit in the cutlery drawer, but it could easily get scratched up by other utensils. The stand prevents it from getting hit by anything else, keeping it in top shape.

The handle is said to be ergonomically designed for a comfortable hold, and we can confirm that this is true. It also has a smooth exterior coating that adds to its comfortability factor.

Setup Process: Super easy to use

To get frothing with the PowerLix Milk Frother Pro, the setup is fairly simple. Just place two AA batteries inside the handle portion of the frother. There is a compartment that easily opens on the back of the handle. Note that the batteries are not included.

The only downside is that this frother does not also heat the liquid.

It’s now ready to froth beverages. Before turning it on, place the whisk halfway down into the desired beverage. Then turn it on by pushing the power button on the very top of the handle. Make sure to move the wand up and down some when it’s in the milk. When the desired foam is created, turn off by pushing the power button again. We found the power button to be conveniently placed.

Performance: Creates a good foam, but no heat

As for the froth it creates, the PowerLix Milk Frother Pro does a great job of creating a smooth microfoam, or a sweet and rich liquid foam. We also loved that this frother is quiet. Though the motor is powerful, providing 19,000 RPMs (revolutions per minute), it’s low-noise. We found this to be a nice feature, as it barely makes a peep when turned on.

In just 15 seconds, we had a good foam going with lots of volume.

We used whole milk with this frother and had good results in terms of the froth it makes for cappuccinos and lattes. In just 15 seconds, we had a good foam going with lots of volume. The only downside is that this frother does not also heat the liquid. We wanted to use this frother to make hot coffee beverages so we had to find other means (like the microwave) of heating our milk before frothing.

Beyond coffee drinks, this frother can be used for mixing milkshakes or blending cocktails, as it’s suited for both hot and cold beverages.

Ease of Cleaning: Quick cleanup

To clean the frother after use, take the whisk end of the wand and place it into a glass of hot water and turn it on. Never immerse the top half of the frother in water, as it could cause functional damage.

Though it’s one of the more budget-friendly options on the market, it offers high-quality results.

Price: One of the cheapest options

While top-of-the-line milk frothers can cost upwards of $100, the PowerLix Milk Frother Pro retails for only about $15. Though it’s one of the more budget-friendly options on the market, it offers high-quality results with a good microfoam for making espresso beverages of your choice. The major drawback is that it doesn’t heat the milk, which is something you would get with a pricier frother.

PowerLix Milk Frother Pro vs. Nespresso Aeroccino4 Milk Frother

The Nespresso Aeroccino4 Milk Frother is one of the PowerLix Milk Frother Pro’s top competitors. We tested the two and found they are pretty different in what they offer, and they also differ greatly in price. However, both are popular milk frother options.

The Nespresso milk frother both heats and froths milk and offers users two options of foam consistencies. The PowerLix milk frother only froths milk and does not heat. Another difference between the two is the Nespresso runs on electricity whereas the PowerLix milk frother runs on AA batteries, though that doesn’t take away from its efficiency. The PowerLix can create froth in about 15 seconds, whereas the Nespresso takes about 80 seconds in total to make a hot or cold froth. Another advantage of the PowerLix milk frother is that it is travel-friendly, as it runs on batteries and is conveniently sized.

It really comes down to your needs and what you’re looking to get out of a milk frother. For travelers, a portable frother may be the best option for making espresso drinks anytime, anywhere. The Nespresso is better suited for coffee lovers who can take their time at home.

Final Verdict

Buy it if you don’t care about heating.

For someone merely interested in experimenting with milk frothing for the first time, the PowerLix Milk Frother Pro is the perfect tool. The low-cost, low-risk frother creates a good microfoam for espresso beverages but does require the extra step of heating the milk first.
