Fun fact about me: I love bowls. I’m Filipino and grew up eating a lot of rice dishes and stews, so I have some very strong opinions about the ideal shape, size, and weight of bowls that I eat out of. This bowl obsession also extends to mixing bowls, and the ones by Pyrex are the gold standard in my book.

At home, I have two out of the four bowls from the Pyrex 8-Piece Mixing Bowl Set With Assorted Lids. I’m not quite sure what happened to the other two bowls (1 and 4 quarts) and their lids, but the ones I do have (the 1.5- and 2.5-quart bowls) get plenty of use in my kitchen. Since they’re made out of Pyrex’s durable and high-quality tempered glass, I can use them to cream butter and sugar or mix batters with my electric hand mixer, reheat leftovers, store flour, and so much more. Plus, when I’m not using them, they nest together for compact storage.

These bowls have gotten a lot of use over the past few years, particularly during the pandemic when I dove into baking projects to pass the time. I’ve used the Pyrex bowls to make banana bread, which starts with putting unsalted butter in a bowl and heating it up in the microwave for a few seconds since the recipe I use calls for room-temperature butter, and I typically forget to plan ahead. Not only can the Pyrex bowl be used in a microwave, but it’s also sturdy enough to be used with my electric mixer and can even go into a preheated oven. My 2.5-quart Pyrex bowl is often filled with flour so that I can more accurately measure it, fluffing up the flour in the bowl and spooning it into a measuring cup before leveling off with a bench scraper.

My Pyrex mixing bowls were a crucial tool in my sourdough baking journey. They were the perfect vessels for mixing dough and allowing it to rise overnight, and while the combination of flour and water typically leads to a cement-like mixture that can be incredibly difficult to clean, a quick wipe with a paper towel and some soaking in the sink was all that was needed to clean my bowls for their next task. The bowls and lids are also dishwasher safe for even easier cleanup.

I’ve also noticed that the bowls don’t stain or hold onto food odors or flavors, which is nice since I use them for so many different things.

Beyond baking, these bowls are handy for storing everything from watermelon chunks for a picnic to last night’s dinner for easy lunch leftovers. Whether I’m making sinigang soup, traditional pancit, or a huge pot of bolognese, the Pyrex bowls are convenient for storing leftovers in the fridge. Since each bowl comes with a corresponding lid, I know my leftovers will stay fresh. The brightly colored lids are a nice feature, as they’re easier to spot in the cabinet. I’ve also noticed that the bowls don’t stain or hold onto food odors or flavors, which is nice since I use them for so many different things.
