This is a delicious fudge-like chocolate frosting, and it's a great one to make when you're in a hurry. Boil it for just 1 minute, and then be sure to beat until it begins to thicken and become firm, but don't overbeat.
I like this frosting for a simple white or yellow sheet cake. It firms up nicely on the cake. It's especially good for a sheet cake but spread it quickly before it firms up. Or, beat the frosting until it is good and thick but still pourable and then drizzle it over a Bundt cake or tube cake. The recipe is easily doubled for a thicker layer of frosting.

- 1/4 cup butter (4 tablespoons)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup milk -- whole, evaporated, or lower fat are all fine
- 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
In a small saucepan, combine the butter, sugar and milk; bring to a boil. Boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat and stir in the chocolate chips and vanilla.
Beat frosting with an electric mixer until it begins to stiffen to a spreading consistency. Don't overbeat or it will become too firm, like fudge. Pour it over the cake and spread quickly.
If the frosting hardens and becomes difficult to spread, add a little hot water or dip your spatula or knife in hot water as you spread it over the cake.
Makes enough frosting to top a 9-by-13-by-2-inch cake.
