This is a delicious fudge-like chocolate frosting, and it's easy to make when you're in a hurry. It's boiled for just one minute and made with ingredients you probably already have on hand.
This frosting is perfect for a simple sheet cake, firming up nicely for easy slicing. It can also be drizzled over a Bundt cake or tube cake. The recipe can be doubled for a thicker layer of frosting.
It's not only simple, but it's also made with only five ingredients.
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup milk (whole, evaporated, or lower fat are all fine)
- 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
In a small saucepan, combine the butter, sugar, and milk; bring to a boil. Boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat and stir in the chocolate chips and vanilla.
Beat frosting with an electric mixer until it begins to stiffen to a spreadable consistency. Don't overbeat or it will become too firm, like fudge. Pour it over the cake and spread quickly.
If the frosting hardens and becomes difficult to spread, add a little hot water or dip your spatula or knife in hot water as you spread it over the cake.
