Flat Iron Steak With Rosemary and Red Wine Marinade

Flat iron steaks are a flavorful and versatile cut of meat. They can be grilled and served with a side dish or added to salads, tacos, and wraps. This recipe offers fragrant additions that take the flavor up another notch.


  • 2 flat iron steaks, about 1 pound (450 g) each
  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) of dry red wine
  • 1 to 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons (45 mL) olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon (5 mL) fresh thyme, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 mL) fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon (5 mL) dry mustard
  • 2 teaspoons (10 mL) sea salt

Steps to Make It

  1. Place flat iron steaks in a shallow baking dish. Season with salt. Combine marinade ingredients and pour onto meat, turn to coat, and cover with plastic wrap. Allow to marinate in the refrigerator for 1 hour.

  2. Preheat grill for medium-high heat. Remove meat from the dish and discard marinade. Place onto the grill and cook for 6 to 8 minutes per side. When the meat reaches the desired doneness, remove from the heat and let the meat sit for 3 minutes before slicing.
