Imagine if a super fresh Thai spring roll combined it's goodness with the richness of a Chinese steamed bun. Well that's what's going on in these spring roll inspired steamed buns. So go ahead and swap out the rice paper for these slightly sweet, light and airy steamed buns and add sweet a dollop of some spicy chili sauce, a few creamy slices of avocado, crisp strands of carrots and cucumbers rounds, zippy pickled red onions, spicy jalapenos and umami-rich hoison sauce. If you like it hot, add some Sriracha or sambal and get ready to indulge in an almost perfect guilt free treat.

(Oh, and FYI, I've written this recipe as if you've got frozen steamed buns on hand - However, if you dare to make them yourself I recommend following this recipe from Epicurious or try your hand at this cheater's version from Steamy Kitchen.
- 3 steamed buns
- 1 tbsp. sweet chili sauce
- 1 tbsp. hoisin sauce
- 1/2 avocado (sliced)
- 1/4 cup shredded carrot
- 6 slices fresh cucumber
- 1 tbsp. pickled red onion
- 6 slices pickled jalapeno
- 1/2 tbsp. chopped peanuts
Prepare steamed buns accordingly and set aside under a warm moist towel until ready to assemble.
Evenly distribute the the chili sauce, avocado, carrot, cucumber, red onion, jalapenos, hoison sauce and the chopped peanuts. Serve immediately with a side of sriracha and sake if desired.
