A simple combination of berries, milk, and sugar are blended together is an ideal as a light snack or breakfast on the go.
Fresh or frozen strawberries will work in this recipe, and depending on the sweetness of the berries will determine how much sugar you will need. In fact, if the berries are very sweet, you may not need any sugar at all. Add ice to the blender with the rest of the ingredients if you prefer your milkshake nice and chilled. For a richer, creamier version, try a creamy strawberry smoothie with condensed milk.

1 pound strawberries, hulled
2 cups cold milk
3 tablespoons granulated sugar, or to taste
Ice cubes, optional
Gather the ingredients.
In a blender, add the strawberries, milk, and sugar to taste.
Process the mixture until smooth and creamy.
If you'd like the milkshake well-chilled, add several ice cubes and blend until the ice is crushed and the mixture is thick.
Pour into glasses and serve.
- Although you are blending the berries and thus presentation doesn't matter, it is best to hull them instead of simply cutting off the top. Hulling—removing just the stem of the strawberry—preserves more of the fruit, eliminating unnecessary waste.
- If you are using frozen strawberries you most likely won't need any ice; the coldness of the berries will create a similar effect.
- If you would like this milkshake to be dairy-free, simply replace the regular milk with a dairy-free version such as almond or soy milk.
- Feel free to add other fruit to the shake; bananas are a perfect match for strawberries, as are raspberries, blood orange, and mango.
- You can, of course, turn this recipe into an American-style milkshake and add vanilla ice cream. Keep in mind, however, that the milkshake is no longer as healthy.
