This strawberry cake is made with a cake mix and strawberry soda, along with strawberry-flavored gelatin. Try making this flavorful dish the next time you're planning to go out on a hot summer day or want to impress your kids with a deliciously sweet treat.

  • 1 (18 1/2-ounce) box yellow cake mix, or white cake mix

  • 2 (3-ounce) boxes strawberry Jell-O

  • 1 cup boiling water

  • 1 (12-ounce) can or bottle strawberry soda

  • 1 (16-ounce) container whipped topping, such as Cool Whip

  • 5 large fresh strawberries, for garnish

Steps to Make It

  1. Prepare cake mix according to package directions; bake in a 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan. While still warm, puncture cake with a fork, about every 2 inches.

  2. Combine Jell-O and boiling water. Stir to dissolve. Add strawberry soda pop to Jell-O and stir. Pour over cake while warm.

  3. Spread the Cool Whip over the cooled strawberry cake before you serve it.

  4. Garnish with fresh strawberries.
