The real secret with any kind of teriyaki recipe is to get the sauce to glaze over the surface of the meat without burning. If you keep a close eye on it, you shouldn't have any trouble.

What You'll Need

  • 6 pork chops
  • 2/3 cup/160 mL soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup/80 mL firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup/80 mL water
  • 1/4 cup/60 mL rice vinegar
  • 3 garlic cloves, chopped fine
  • 1 tablespoon/15 mL​ fresh ginger peeled and chopped fine

How to Make It

  1. In a saucepan mix all ingredients except the pork chops and heat until sugar dissolves. Let cool.
  2. Place chops in a large container or plastic bag. Pour marinade over chops and seal the container. Let sit overnight.
  3. Prepare grill.
  4. Remove chops from marinade and place marinade in a saucepan add water. Bring to a boil for 5 minutes.
  5. Grill chops over medium flame until cooked all the way through. Baste with marinade a few minutes before they are done.
  1. Serve plain or over rice.
  2. Pour warmed reserved marinade over chops before serving.
