Gather the ingredients.
Preheat oven to 375 F.
Sift the flour, baking soda, and salt into a small bowl.
In a large bowl and using an electric mixer, cream together the butter, sugars, and vanilla extract.
Beat in the eggs, one at a time, and beating well after each addition.
Beat in the sifted ingredients until just blended.
Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts.
Drop the dough by 1/4 cup portions about 3 inches apart on un-greased cookie sheets.
Bake for 11 to 13 minutes, or until golden brown around the edges.
Set the cookie sheets on wire racks to cool for 2 to 3 minutes, then transfer the cookies to the racks to cool completely.
