I am dying to try the Venezuelan treat called patacón - a sandwich made with slices of twice fried green plantain instead of bread! What a great idea! I just came across this article from the New York Times, which decribes patacón and where you can sample them around New York City. The fillings are elaborate, generous, and varied - shredded beef, roast pork, cheese, lettuce, salsas...
I love twice fried plantains all by themselves, so I'm sure they are even better in sandwich form.
